After twenty-two months of applied R&D, Janata Sadat's textile innovation laboratory has produced a bio-composite jute-cotton fabric that has been awarded the EU Ecolabel — Europe's strictest voluntary environmental certification for textile products — opening the company's first credentialed entry point into European premium fashion and automotive interior markets.

The fabric, designated BC-J47, is a 47% jute / 53% organic cotton plain-weave construction with a tensile strength of 480 N/5cm and a weight range of 240–320 gsm. The Ecolabel assessment, conducted by the Belgian certification body Centexbel, evaluated the full product lifecycle — from raw fibre sourcing and spinning to dyeing chemistry, finishing agents, and end-of-life biodegradability. BC-J47 passed all 22 assessment criteria, including a requirement that no restricted substances under the REACH Regulation are detectable above threshold in the finished fabric.

Market Applications

The EU Ecolabel positions BC-J47 for specification in two high-margin European segments where Janata Sadat has not previously had credentialed access. In sustainable fashion, the fabric meets the material-origin and process transparency requirements of the French AGEC anti-waste law and Germany's Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz (LkSG) supply chain due diligence law. In automotive interiors, it satisfies the end-of-life recyclability criteria of the revised EU End-of-Life Vehicles Directive — a requirement that is reshaping material specifications at European OEMs including BMW, Volkswagen, and Renault.

BC-J47 Technical Credentials

  • 02OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I (suitable for baby-skin contact)
  • 03Composition: 47% jute (Bangladesh), 53% GOTS-certified organic cotton
  • 04Weight: 240–320 gsm; width: 150 cm; tensile: 480 N/5cm
  • 05Biodegradation: >95% in 180 days (EN ISO 14855-1 compost test)
  • 06No azo dyes, formaldehyde, or heavy metal finishing agents

“This is not a marketing label. The EU Ecolabel required us to document and verify every input and every process step — it took nearly two years. But what we now have is a fabric that can be sold into the most demanding European markets with full regulatory confidence, and that is worth every taka of R&D investment.”
