Three years of sustained capital investment in energy infrastructure and process efficiency have delivered a verified 28% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions at Janata Sadat's Palash manufacturing facility — the most significant environmental performance milestone in the company's history.
The Palash facility, which accounts for approximately 60% of Janata Sadat's total yarn and fabric output, completed Phase II of its Clean Energy Transition Programme in February 2024. The programme, initiated in 2021 under the AkijBashir Group's corporate sustainability framework, encompasses a 1.8 MW rooftop photovoltaic installation, an AI-assisted power scheduling system, and a comprehensive overhaul of steam generation and compressed-air infrastructure.
Environmental Performance Metrics — FY2023
- 0128% reduction in verified Scope 1 + 2 GHG emissions vs. 2020 baseline
- 0218% of facility energy now sourced from on-site solar (1.8 MW installed capacity)
- 03Steam consumption per MT of output reduced by 21% via heat-recovery upgrades
- 04Compressed-air system leakage cut from 34% to under 6% through pipe renewal
- 053,200 MWh of grid electricity displaced annually by solar generation
“Our buyers in Europe and North America are under intense pressure from their own ESG commitments. When we can demonstrate third-party verified emission reductions, it removes a significant barrier to specification — and it is simply the right thing to do for the communities in which we operate.”
Emissions data has been independently verified by Bureau Veritas Bangladesh against the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting Standard. The verified report is available to institutional buyers and ESG rating agencies upon request to the export desk. Phase III of the programme, targeting an additional 12% emission reduction through biomass co-firing in steam boilers, is planned for implementation in 2025.
